The Outer Islands

Vanuatu is an archipelago of 83 islands and dozens of small islets. Visiting one of these islands will take you on a magnificent journey through time, to primeval jungles and stone age cultures, to virgin rain forests and desolate volcanic moonscapes. It is a journey undertaken by few, for these islands do not generally offer the same creature comforts as Vila. But these places are what make Vanuatu the extraordinary country that it is. Take your minds and hearts on a holiday from the twentieth century, away from the trappings of the modern world and come on an unforgettable journey with us to these wonderful islands.

There are numerous ways of getting there. For those with a healthy budget, a helicopter flight is the ultimate experience. Swoop through deep jungle ravines and towering cliffs, have a champagne picnic on the edge of a seething lake of orange lava lake. Or take a seaplane to a deserted cove. For couch potatoes, you can do a day trip overflying a volcano and never leave your seat, yet experience some of the most majestic landscapes in the world . But for those with a little more time, book a Vanair flight to one of these great islands, living there a while, perhaps for just a day or two and you will be richly rewarded by your experiences.

If you are spending the night(s) in any of these out of the way places, please be a little forgiving of any perceived shortcomings. Remember that many of these places are a long way from anywhere and dependent on the sporadic arrival of ships to bring in basic supplies. Luxury items are not always easy to obtain, power may not always be working and service may be a little slow. But the people of the islands love visitors and given their limited resources, will do everything they can to make your stay a pleasurable one.

A word of advice....book your outer island tours before you leave for Vanuatu. Being an island nation with a small domestic airline, flights are frequently booked out by locals, often for weeks in advance.
