Survivor & Paul's Beaches featured backdrop of this web site  and 'Survivor' women's tribal camp

Just a few minutes from Paul's Rock reef are a series of coves and beaches, the prettiest of which are Paul's Rock and Survivor Beach. Depending on the wind, Golden Wing anchors close to shore of these adjoining beaches, then it's all ashore in our inflatable dinghy. Or why not toss your towel and shoes in the dinghy and snorkel ashore instead!

Unlike Australian beaches, the beautiful white 'sand' is mostly worn coral, so footwear is mandatory. At the eastern end of Paul's Rock Beach is a small stream. A rough jungle track heading south east leads to a large, freshwater pool. Easy to find because of the waterfall down the cliff face (the waterfall generally only operates in the wet season). Access is not easy, so swimming in  this deep, completely circular pool is not recommended. We don't always have time to go here, unless on overnight cruises.

Paul's Rock Beach was the home to the Yasur (women's) tribe during the filming of the television series, "Survivor". Interestingly much of the footage of the men's camps was also shot here, including the fresh water stream! We personally can't see how being stranded here would be a hardship, as the Lelepa Islanders gardens are nearby. There's also wild banana, pawpaw (papaya) coconuts, yams, taro, 'cress, freshwater prawns, pippies (clams) on the beach, and land crabs (taste like mud crab) all here for the taking. Stands of bamboo make for great construction materials, and with a clean, freshwater creek in your back yard, (the water is a purer than the stuff that comes out of taps) what more could you want!

snorkelling and fish feeding

On overnight cruises (with divers, after an optional night dive at Paul's Rock) we set up a barbeque on the beach. A cask of wine, hermit crab races, and a spectacular view of the night sky - minus all those pesky big city lights - is the dream of paradise come alive. For larger groups, we can set up tents. A truly memorable way to wake up is to crawl out that tent, take a few steps and go for an early morning snorkel, then wash off the saltwater in the fresh water stream - magic!
