This is a world class site with a richly varied terrain and cornucopia of fish life requiring at least two dives to fully appreciate. Almost every Sailaway cruise offers a dive here.

There are numerous distinctly different caves and tunnels. From a field of yellow acropora, the lower tunnels are filled with overlapping gorgonia sea fans and sea whips, and clouds of cardinal fish. The uppermost tunnels are like wall to wall shag piled carpets of soft corals. Deeper, large gorgonia fans and seawhips sometime hide a resting lemon shark, but the most memorable feature is the huge schools of exceptionally friendly fish.

The local ni-Vanuatu have a custom 'tabu' on taking any life from Paul's Rock, on pain of death - making for a far more effective natural marine sanctuary than any government imposed legislature! Consequently, it's a fish photographers dream come true with every known species of reef fish, and many pelagics, found within a few metres of each other…. all eagerly awaiting the small handouts of food from divers.

For those on overnight cruises, this has to be the most spectacular night dive around. With a light current, the soft coral in the tunnels are out in full bloom and crawling with shrimp and decorator crabs. Crannies and overhangs have sleeping parrot fish asleep in their 'bubbles' and the top of the Rock has huge basket stars waving in motion with the gentle eddies around the rock.
