Turtle Reef |
|||||
Nearby to Paul's Rock and about the same distance from shore, is another volcanic extrusion covered in masses of marine life. It is frequently visited on a day cruise instead of Hat Island. Very similar to Paul's Rock, the terrain is studded with tunnels and caverns, gorgonia fans and soft corals and a variety and abundance of fish life. The seamount bottoms out onto a sandy floor with aquarium like islands of coral reef at 15m leading down to a coral wall at 20-25m. Turtles, larger pelagics, lemon sharks and and stingrays are common visitors. As it does not come quite as close to the surface as Paul's Rock, we generally visit this reef when there are only divers on board, as it is does not offer as good snorkelling. Sailaway
